Carleton Abbott Obituary
Carleton “Crash” Nathan Abbott, 73, of North Windham, Connecticut passed away July 5, 2023, at Windham Hospital from heart complications.
Born on August 1, 1949, in North Searsport, Maine, he was the third child born and the first son of Doris L. (Hustus) and Ralph N. Abbott.
He was an adventurous young man and was not only raised with his siblings but many cousins who shared the same enthusiasm that he had. He was especially fond of his Uncle Kenny as they shared the same birthday. He loved to visit him and his family on the dairy farm.
In 1964, Carleton moved with his mother and younger brother to North Windham, Connecticut where he attended high school. When he was in his early 20s, he went with a friend to do some construction work in Maine. While on the jobsite, he experienced a terrible fall off a 60’ scaffold. He obtained serious injuries which kept him in the hospital for quite a while, but this didn’t stop him. He eventually returned home to Connecticut and was hired as a union laborer doing construction work for the CECO Corp. Less than a decade later, he had a major motorcycle accident that nearly cost him his life. He was hospitalized for months. This disabled him and ended his construction career.
His life continued and he became an avid bowler. He won several trophies and numerous awards, one of which was for a perfect score of 300. He enjoyed fishing and scuba diving. He could often be found in local establishments singing much-loved karaoke and enjoying time with his friends. Carleton always looked forward to the annual trip to Maine to attend the Hustus Family Reunion. Being with family brought him much joy and he loved to “joke around” while drinking, what he fondly referred to as, “Ispep” (i.e., Pepsi).
Carleton was predeceased by his father, Ralph N. Abbott, a young niece and a young nephew. He is survived by his mother, Doris L. Scammon, his sisters: Carlene A. Prentice and Donna M. Kawa, his brother Raymond N. Abbott (Gale) and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the New Willimantic Cemetery, in Willimantic, Connecticut on August 5, 2023. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to join in a time of sharing at Christian Life Assembly, 143 Windham Road also in Willimantic.
Carleton will be missed by those who loved him, but his 100-year-old mother, whom he loved dearly and lived with the majority of his life, will most certainly miss him the most. Until we meet again… may he rest in peace.
