Carl Broll Smith Sr

Carl B. Smith Sr., 84 , of Willimantic, died Monday Oct. 14, 2002 at the Windham Hospital. He was born Sept. 5, 1918 in Willimantic the son of William and Hazel (Howlett) Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War 2, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. Carl had been employed by the American Thread Co. and then by the Brand-Rex Co. until he retired. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Hoxie) Smith, 2 sons and daughters in law; Carl and Diane Smith Jr. of Columbia and David and Helen Smith of Willimantic, 5 grandchildren; Tammy Worthington, Daniel Macha Jr., Christopher Smith, Michael Smith and Carl Smith III, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held with burial in the Windham Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
