Carl B. Smith Sr., 84 , of Willimantic, died Monday Oct. 14, 2002 at the Windham Hospital. He was born Sept. 5, 1918 in Willimantic the son of William and Hazel (Howlett) Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War 2, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. Carl had been employed by the American Thread Co. and then by the Brand-Rex Co. until he retired. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Hoxie) Smith, 2 sons and daughters in law; Carl and Diane Smith Jr. of Columbia and David and Helen Smith of Willimantic, 5 grandchildren; Tammy Worthington, Daniel Macha Jr., Christopher Smith, Michael Smith and Carl Smith III, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held with burial in the Windham Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Eastern Ct., 34 Ledgebrook Dr., Mansfield Center, Ct. 06250. Arrangements through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
