Carl M. Caler Sr., 88, of Scotland, CT and formerly of Lebanon, CT and New Port Richey, FL died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 which would have been his late wife Margie’s 83rd birthday at Windham Hospital with his family by his side. Carl was born October 1, 1932 in Addison, Maine to LeRoy and Dorothy (Bagley) Caler.

Carl joined the Maine National Guards at the age of 17 he served for two years then moved to CT, a few months later he was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Fort Hamilton NY where he served as a Military Police Officer. He met his late wife Margie (Slyman) Caler while stationed at Fort Hamilton. They married on September 19, 1954 in a double wedding with Margie’s sister Rose.  They were married for 42 years before she predeceased him in 1997.

Carl and Margie raised their family in Mansfield Center then moved to Lebanon.

After the Army Carl was a truck driver for Berkman Grain, Agway and Kofkoff all of North Franklin, CT.  After retirement Carl made his home in New Port Richey Florida where he enjoyed the beaches, warm weather and breakfast every morning at Susie’s Restaurant to meet up with friends. His declining health brought him back to Connecticut to be near his family. He made his home with his son Carl Jr. in Scotland.

Carl leaves behind his three loving children, Mary and her husband Mark Wilson of Lebanon, his son Carl Caler Jr. of Scotland, his son Roy and his wife Liette Caler of Colchester. His granddaughters Kristina Greene, Katie (Mike) Caruso of Lebanon, His grandsons Sean (Jenny) Caler of Chaplin, Zachary Caler and Jacob Caler of Lebanon. Four Great Grandchildren, Jayden Wroniak, Dominick and Mason Caruso of Lebanon and Theodore Caler of Chaplin and his faithful black lab companion Delilah who was always by his side.

Carl’s services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
