Calvin A. Chowanec

September 1, 1949 — February 10, 2016

Calvin A. Chowanec, age 66, of Lebanon, CT passed suddenly from this earth on February 10, 2016 at Windham Hospital. Cal attended Horace Porter School in Columbia, Windham High School and the University of Connecticut in Storrs before joining his family's business, T.E. Chowanec & Sons Well Drilling, in 1970. That business later became Chowanec Well Drilling. Cal was an avid sports fan of the New England Patriots, especially Tom Brady. An avid sportsman himself, Cal played Little League, Twilight League, high school baseball and received a baseball scholarship to UCONN. He later played on WilliMac softball teams from 1975-1985. Cal was a huge supporter of the YMCA and loved to play paddleball there. He was also a big, long-time fan of Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band. Everyone knew he bought the New York Times daily, read it cover-to -cover and reported to others the latest international news. Cal was predeceased by his parents Josephine and Thomas Chowanec. Cal is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kathy, as well as his son Ike Chowanec, daughter-in-law, Stacy and his beloved granddaughters Nikki and Keri who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Chowanec, Jr. and his special cousin, Rickey Chowanec. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to SMSJ School, 35 Valley St. Willimantic, CT 06226 or any organization of your choice. Calling Hours will be held Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Potter Funeral Home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
