Bruce S. Fletcher, 50, of North Rd., Ashford, husband of Jaye (Waldron) Fletcher, died unexpectedly on Monday Nov. 18, 2002 at the Windham Hospital. He was born Nov. 20, 1951 in Manchester the son of the late Ralph H. Fletcher Jr. and Helen (Carmel) Fletcher. Bruce was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and 2 Purple Hearts. He also served in the Connecticut National Guard for 20 years until he retired. On Oct. 3, Bruce retired from D.C.M.A. Pratt & Whitney, E. Hartford. He was a 30 year member of the Ashford Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as Chief since 1996. Bruce held a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Service, was a certified CT. State Fire Officer II and a member of Tolland Mutual Aid Fire Chief's Assoc. He was also an active member of the Tolland County Switchboard Assoc and has been an EMT since 1974. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children; Steven C. Fletcher and his wife Louise of Ashford, James Perkins of Ashford, Melissa Fletcher of Ashford and Rachael Pelletier of N.Y., 3 brothers; Ralph H. Fletcher and his wife Sandy of Ashford, Alan J. Fletcher of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and his twin, Wayne C. Fletcher and his wife Theresa of Ashford and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00am at the former Ashford Baptist Church, Rte 89, Westford, with the Rev. Raymond Foster officiating. Burial with military honors, will follow in the Westford Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Ashford Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1, Ashford, Ct. 06278.
