Brian Anthony Lathrop, of Noank, CT, formerly of Lebanon, CT, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013, in the company of his family. He was born July 27, 1941 in Willimantic son of the late Thurley (Cummings) Lathrop and Merrill Lathrop, of Lebanon, CT. Brian was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School in 1959. Brian enjoyed a varied and successful career in the wire industry spanning more than 35 years, during which he held plant management and project management responsibilities in a fast changing and developing industry; first with Brand Rex Company in Willimantic, CT, including a 2 year project in Scotland, UK, and later with Montrose Products, Astro Cable and Madison Cable in MA, prompting a relocation to Sturbridge, MA. Brian retired from Madison Cable in 1998. Upon retiring he relocated to Noank, CT. He was a longtime member of Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton, CT., and enjoyed sailing, boating and travel with a great group of friends for many years and was loved by many. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Lathrop, his son Brett A. Lathrop and daughter Catherine Lathrop, both of MA; and grandchildren, Ryan, Isabelle and Iris with whom he had a special bond. His family will receive relatives and friends at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT on Wednesday August 7th between 6:00 and 8:00pm. A Remembrance Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at 11:00am in New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd., Lebanon. Memorial donations are suggested to SYC Sailing School and mailed to Shennecossett Yatch Club, P.O. Box 967, Groton, CT. 06340.
