Bette Ann Smith, 84, of Canterbury, CT, wife of the late Howard M. Smith, passed away after a brief illness on February 11,2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rockville, CT on August 21, 1941, the daughter of the late William and Lola (Westgate) Burns.

Bette had a love of playing with yarn, puzzling and spending time with family and friends which kept her happy. Bette will be remembered for her unexpected wit, love of life and the thousands of sweaters lovingly made and shared with all.

Bette is survived by three daughters; Katie, Sue and Judy; five grandchildren; Rick, Josh, CJ, Nick and Sara, siblings Pat, and Kathy (Mimi); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son James Howard Smith and her brother Bill Burns Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 2:00pm at Ryan’s Place Restaurant, 180 Westminster Rd.
