Bernie Mailloux, 66, of Columbia, CT passed away at his home on Saturday June 23, 2012. He was born Sept 8, 1945 in Putnam, CT. He was the son of the late Camille F. Mailloux and Yvette Grenier-Mailloux of Danielson, CT. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Arlene Mailloux, two daughters and two grandchildren; Keri Mailloux of Mansfield Center, CT and Kimberly Herwerth and her husband Brian and their two children Zachary and Rachel of Colchester, CT. He also leaves behind two sisters, Suzanne Mailloux of Brooklyn, CT and Claire Barile and her husband Al Barile of Cheshire, CT, several nieces and nephews and three grand-pets. Upon graduation from Windham High School, Bernie enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Vietnam War as an X-ray Technician/Medical Corpsman. He was proud to serve his country in the armed forces. After his return from Vietnam, he earned a Computer Programming diploma and worked for Automatic Comfort Petroleum Corp. in East Hartford, CT from 1968-1994. After retiring, he held multiple part time jobs assisting people with disabilities including, ELMCREST Hospital, March Corporation and lastly RHAM High School; where he worked as a special education paraprofessional from 1996-2010. With golf as his passion, Bernie had been a long standing member of the Willimantic Country Club. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday June 29, 2012 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. A private burial will be held with full military honors in Connecticut State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown, CT on Saturday June 30, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernie's memory to the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs, Patient Welfare Fund, 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT. 06067. He will always be remembered for the love and devotion he provided to his family, his kindness to friends and neighbors, as well as a hardworking man, who loved the beach, golfing, the UCONN Huskies, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
