Bernard Sarra, 94, of Willimantic, beloved husband of the late Nicolette (Macione) Sarra, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham. He was born September 22, 1918 in Middletown, son of the late Anthony Sarra and Elizabeth (DiBernardi) Sarra. Mr. Sarra proudly served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was intimately aware of the capabilities and needs of maintenance for the many aircraft of that great war. He later would become a supervisor for the Electro Motive Manufacturing Company. Before retirement he also worked for many years as a Quality Control Supervisor at the United Nuclear Corporation - Naval Products Division of Montville. Among his pleasant recent pastimes were playing bridge with friends and companions at the Mansfield Senior Center and rooting for the UConn Huskies, the Yankees and the Patriots. As a younger man he was an outstanding athlete at Middletown High School and enjoyed playing baseball, playing golf and traveling with Nicolette and friends throughout the U.S. and through European and Caribbean countries. After retirement he especially enjoyed spending winters with his family and friends in Florida. Mr. Sarra is survived by his children; Robert Sarra of Glendale, CA and James Sarra and his wife Kris of Tujunga, CA. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Jamie, of Alexandria, VA. He is especially appreciative of the life-long friendship of Emma Kuchta who, with very thoughtful family members helped to provide happiness and comfort when they were most needed. He also leaves sisters-in-law Marie Fortin of Middletown and Francine Dussault of Glastonbury. Mr. Sarra is also especially appreciative of his relationship with his brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph Macione of Tolland who has been his best friend and advocate for many years. His funeral service will be Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
