Beatrice Fay Shachov, 80, of Ashford, Connecticut went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on April 14, 1935 to parents Herbert and Ethel Greathouse. She graduated from Davies County High School in Owensboro and then went on to attend William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri. There she met a young legal immigrant from Russia named Wasili Shachov who was studying at the Central Baptist Seminary. They were married June 25, 1955. After Wasili graduated, they moved to New York City where he accepted a pastoral position at First Russian Baptist Church. In 1960 they moved to New Jersey where he became the senior pastor of the Evangelical Baptist Church in Passaic, where they ministered to the Russian people for the next 40 years. Beatrice learned Russian and faithfully served the Russian people inside and outside the doors of their church. She taught children's Sunday school, led numerous ladies Bible studies and prayer groups, and played the organ during Sunday morning services. When the Cold War ended in 1991, she worked tirelessly with many volunteers sending Bibles and Christian literature to Russia. In 2002, she moved to Ashford, CT with her husband where she managed The Gilead Home for the Aged until she retired in 2008. She is survived by her children Jonathan, Billy and David, her younger sister Evialyn Buskill, and her 9 grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 3:00PM Friday, July 24, 2015, at Evangelical Christian Center, 574 Ashford Center Rd., Ashford, CT. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial to follow at Woodward Cemetery, Ashford, CT.
