Barbara G. Mees

Barbara Mees, 82, of Waterford, CT, died peacefully at Norwichtown Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, after a short illness. Born and raised in Bridgton, ME, she was the daughter of Burnett and Pearl Humphrey. Barbara has always cherished her memories of growing up in Bridgton with her lifelong best friend Sadie Trembley, of Groton, CT. She later returned to Bridgton in the 1970's. She has visited often since her return to Connecticut. Barbara raised her family of six children in Willimantic, CT. Barbara was a retired nurse, having worked for both Windham Hospital and State of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Francis Meakem. She is survived by her children: John Meakem, of Silver Spring, MD; Donald Meakem, of Windham Center, CT; Julie Carignan, of Coventry, CT; Brenda Perkins, of Windham Center, CT; and Michael Meakem, of Dayville, CT. She also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren, thirty six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Barbara's family will receive relatives and friends Sunday January 4, 2015 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195), Willimantic, CT. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 5, at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to VNA Southeastern, 403 north frontage Rd., Waterford, CT 06385. A brief gathering for family and friends will follow the burial.
