Barbara A. Smith

Barbara A. Smith, 66, of Columbia, wife of Nyle Smith Sr., died Friday May 3, 2002 at the Windham Hospital. She was born April 18, 1936 in Hartford, the daughter of Delsie (Sage) Edwards of Columbia and the late Ralph Edwards Sr. and had lived in Columbia most of her life. Throughout her life she was a loving and devoted caregiver to her family. She was formerly employed at the Elecro-Motive Mfg. Co. in Willimantic, Ingersoll Rand in Manchester and Ames Repair Division in Hebron. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Beckish Senior Center in Columbia. For many years she was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Willimantic and recently became a member of St. Peter Episcopal Church in Hebron. In addition to her husband and mother she is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Shaun Barrett of Columbia, Kathy and Larry Slyman of Lebanon, a brother Ralph Edwards Jr. and his wife Janice of Hampton, 9 grandchildren, Brandy and Nyle III, Shaun Jr., Shannon, Shaleen and Shaylyn, Kaytee, Kristee and Lawrence Jr., many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Nyle Smith Jr. and a brother, Frank Edwards. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte.195) Willimantic on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the West St. Cemetery, Columbia.
