Avis (Nichols) Swan, 82, of Windham, formerly of Storrs, widow of Edward Swan, died Wednesday Nov. 24, 2004 at Douglas Manor in Windham. She was born Nov. 25, 1921 in Willimantic the daughter of Richard and Emmariah (Davis) Swan. Prior to her retirement, Avis had been employed at UConn in Dining Services. She later worked at the Mansfield Senior Center. She is survived by 9 children, Joyce Henderson and her husband Wally of Willimantic, Ella Jean Durnell of MI., Edward Swan of Willington, Richard Swan and his wife Louanne of IN., Thomas Swan and his wife Dolores of NC., Sandra Brindamour and her husband Roland of Hampton, Virginia Stedford of New London, Samuel Swan of Seattle, WA. and Linda Mercier and her husband Will of Sterling; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandson. She was predeceased by a son Robert Taylor and a daughter Agnes Swan. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00am with the Rev. James Beesley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Center Cemetery.
