Aurele "Al" Michaud, 64, of Columbia Landing, Columbia, husband of Norma (Albert) Michaud, died Thursday April 24, 2003 at the Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. He was born Jan. 19, 1939 in St. Leonard, N.B., Canada the son of the late John and Winifred (Desjardins) Michaud. He and his wife owned and operated Michaud Flooring since the business opened in Coventry in 1958. In the early 1970's a second location was opened in Hebron. In 1979 the two locations were merged and relocated to the present location on Rte 66 in Columbia. Michaud Flooring has remained a family operated business with their daughters joining in. Al enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 daughters; Sonya-Lynne Hanson of Willimantic, Gail Michaud of Columbia and Denyse Foran and her husband Steve of Columbia, 2 grandchildren; Rachel and Mitchell Hanson, 7 brothers; Gerald and Roger of Fla., Gilbert of Chaplin, Roy of Windham, Gene of Willimantic, Carl of WA. and John of Canada, 4 sisters; Jean Caron, Evelyn Akerley, Florence Therrien and Joan Michaud all of Canada and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Claude. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00am prior to the procession to his 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 1600 Main St. Coventry. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coventry. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Dept., Columbia, Ct. 06237.
