Arthur Steele Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Steele, 75, of Scotland, CT. He passed away unexpectedly at home on March 22nd, 2024.
Arthur was born on May 22nd, 1948, in New York City and raised in East Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by his father Archie C. Steele; mother, Martha McAuliffe; and brother, Charles Steele.
“Art” as he was lovingly called, was a longtime resident of Scotland, CT, living there for over 45 years. He was a hardworking individual who, from an early age, had an affinity for animals and working with his hands. In his spare time, he loved being outside with his dogs, going for long walks, and enjoying the outdoors.
Professionally, he began his work in the field of construction, welding, and carpentry. He later transitioned to his true passion of gardening. He spent many days at garden fairs and shopping for elusive plants. He had an exceptional aptitude for growing plants, shrubs, and fruit trees. A greener thumb could not be found. He spent his later years as a farm worker and laborer on Browns Farm in Scotland, CT. There he raised and bred angora goats and tended to different animals while taking care of the land. He had a passion for anything hands on and, in that venue, he exercised his work expertise and lived as a free spirit.
Arthur received a call from which there was no return. There was no opportunity for questions, saying goodbye or to pack luggage. With gleeful acceptance he departed for the next adventure. He always loved a challenge.
Arthur leaves behind to mourn his passing, his sister, Emily Steele of Manchester, CT. He will be missed very much.
Arthur’s ashes will be laid to rest at St. James Cemetery in Manchester, CT but his spirit will always be in his beloved Scotland, CT.
