Arthur Brainard Fawell, Jr., 71 of Coventry, beloved father, grandfather, husband of Carol (Church) Fawell passed away at home with his wife at his side. Art was born in Philadelphia, PA, October 16, 1941, son of the late Arthur Brainard, Sr. and Lillian M. Fawell. He grew up in Coventry and Windham, graduating from Windham High School in 1959. He served from 1961 to 1965 in the U.S. Air Force. Upon return from service, he worked as a machinist for 43 years, serving long tenures at Purdy Corp. and Highland Manufacturing in Manchester. He coached youth football in Coventry for 12 years, enjoying the game and the players equally. Art was an active Mason at the Eastern Star Lodge #44 of North Windham. He was a vocal advocate and volunteer to numerous blood drives. He and his family enjoyed their traditional family vacation to Old Orchard Beach, ME. After retirement, he realized a long-held dream of having his own place at the beach. His favorite activities were collecting sand dollars during long walks on the beach and the traditional trips to the Clam Bake. He enjoyed nothing more, though, than time with his children and grandchildren: daughter Lisa Peterson and her husband, John of York, ME; son, Arthur Fawell III of Coventry and his children, Nicole, Arthur IV, and Catherine (Peanut); Kristen Magoun and her husband, Derrick of East Hartford and their daughter, Olivia; and Erik Fawell and his wife Kelly Torza of Haydenville, MA and their children, Oliver, Isabelle, and Simon. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Fawell and his sister, Grace Lincoln. He is survived by his brother, Brian Fawell and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor's choice. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic.
