Arthur D. Roberts

Arthur D. Roberts, Professor Emeritus from the University of Connecticut, School of Education, died on Monday, June 27, 2016. He was predeceased by his wife, Christina Marie Roberts and now leaves his wife and companion, Joyce A. Donohoo; his children Arthur A. Roberts and his wife Liz; Peter A. Roberts and his wife Renee and their son Quin; Ward L. Roberts and his wife Jennifer and their children Kyle and Tyler; and Diana M. Franco and her husband Alex and their children Sabrina and Austin. Arthur is survived by his sister Karen Stolp and her husband Durwood, their children Corrina and Russell; his sister Marlene Hallauer; and his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Leroy and her husband Adrian. He also has ten stepchildren, fifteen step-grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, Dr. Roberts, who lived in Storrs, taught at the University of Connecticut for twenty-six years. He received his Master?s Degree from the University of Idaho, and his EED (Doctor of Education) at the University of Florida. Prior to getting this degree he taught Social Studies at Port Jefferson High School on Long Island. Dr. Roberts was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and he was twice President of the University of Connecticut Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the national honorary society. He was an involved member of ASCD (American Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development). He was twice President of CASCD (Connecticut Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) and became its Historian after his retirement. He collaborated with his deceased wife Christina in writing the book ?World Cultures? which was in print for twenty years. He was the head of Teacher Corps (a Federal Program) in Willimantic in the 1980?s. He was also an active member of the Company of Military Historians. Art was a loving and loyal person, greatly loved by his children, his wife and her children and many friends and students. He took great pride in his punning and often competed with his wife in this area. Art was often referred to as ?A Gentle Giant? by many. One of his greatest interests was the Art of Military Miniatures and he attended numerous Military Expositions and Conferences in Europe, Canada and the United States. He also enjoyed books with an historical bent. There will be no calling hours. There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10 A.M. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT.
