Arthur F. Connor Jr

Arthur F. Connor Jr., 80, of Willimantic, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday Dec. 21, 2011 following a stroke. He was born Nov. 20, 1931 the son of the late Arthur F. Connor Sr. and Katherine (Hurley) Connor and was a lifelong Willimantic resident. From 1948 to 1952 he worked with his father and uncles at their Esso gas station on Main St. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Upon returning he joined with his father in operating Connor's Service Station and Radiator Repair at 114 Columbia Ave. Arthur was an avid reader and sports fan enjoying baseball, basketball, hockey, football and was a dedicated UConn basketball fan. He also enjoyed vintage automobiles. He is survived by his wife Wanda (Gawlak) Connor of Willimantic, son Michael Connor and friend Kristina Smith of Willimantic, daughter Jo-Ann (Connor) DeSciscio and her husband Sal and grandson Connor DeSciscio of Columbia. He is also survived by sisters in law and brothers in law, Helen and Rocco Fiano of Bolton and Jean and William Strede of Coventry and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday Dec. 26th between 4:00 and 6:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with assembly in the church parking lot at 9:45am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Joseph Church Renovation Fund, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT. 06226.
