Arnold Prince passed away peacefully at his home in Chaplin, CT at the age of 89 on Saturday April 5, 2014. He was the son of the late Gerald Prince and Dorothy Mathurin Sebastian Prince of Antigua, West Indies. He was the husband of Claudia Widdiss and was formerly married to Norma Anderson of Providence, RI. Arnold Prince was a renowned Sculptor whose work is in numerous public and private collections. He was a past faculty member of North Adams State College and the Rhode Island School of Design, and was the author of "Carving Wood and Stone, an Illustrated Manual". He was also a skilled painter and environmental muralist. Local examples of his murals are displayed at Willard's Hardware Store, the Card House, and the Chaplin Library. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and his brothers John Prince, Sidney Prince and Roland Prince and his sisters Olive Sergeant, Enid Mason, Maria Oliver, Jennette Prince, Gloria Dickson and Althea Prince. His brothers Ralph Prince, Baden Prince and Edmund Prince predeceased him. He was the father of Ralph Prince of Antigua, WI, Pauline Prince Alleyne and her husband Nigel of Lynchburg, VA, Anderson Prince of Warwick, RI, Joshua Prince and his wife Francisca Gonzalez Cadenas of Barrington, RI, and David A. Prince of Dublin, CA, and the late Tyrone Prince of Antigua, WI. He was the grandfather of Kendra and Shirley Alleyne, Andres Prince Gonzalez and Nicholas Prince Gonzalez. A memorial celebration in honor of Arnold Prince will take place at Eastern Connecticut State University, in the Betty Tipton Room at the student center on Friday, June 6, from 4-6pm.
