Arlene Burr

January 28, 1929 — March 2, 2016

Arlene Elizabeth (Davis) Burr passed away peacefully on March 2, 2016 with her loving husband by her side. She was born on January 28, 1929 in North Haven, CT to Harold E. and Lillian Goodsell Davis. She was a member of the Hampton Elementary School Board for 15 years and also served on the Parish Hill High School Board. Arlene was a Girl Scout co-leader for many years, and she took Girl Scouts to the New York World's Fair. Arlene also co-chaired the Town of Hampton's 200th anniversary committee. She helped design a float for the State of CT's 350th anniversary celebration. She also co-chaired organizing the 250th anniversary of the Hampton Congregational Church. Arlene served as treasurer and chair of the Republican Town Committee for many years. She served on the Fletcher Memorial Library Board for 12 years and also served as chair. Arlene was an avid reader and donated her books to the library for others' enjoyment. For many years, Arlene was a member of the Hampton Congregational Church and served on many committees, including the Ladies Aid Society as president and participating in the Holiday Fair. Gardening was a passion. Arlene also enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling the world with her husband. Arlene loved teaching special needs adults for the State of CT. Arlene is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Morris L. Burr Jr.; three children Jennifer Peterson and her husband Peter, Morris L. Burr III, and his wife Mariellen and Lisa Turcotte and her husband George; four grandchildren, Emily (Peterson) Romano and her husband Alex, Captain Daniel Peterson USMC, Melissa Burr and Aaron Burr, step-granddaughter Jessica (Turcotte) Amato, two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Karissa Amato as well as her sister Loraine Trudell. Along with her parents Arlene was pre-deceased by her brothers, Kenneth and Richard Davis. Donations can be made in the memory of Arlene, to the Fletcher Memorial Library, P.O. Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 5:00-7:00PM at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte 195) Willimantic, CT 06226. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 7, 2016, Hampton Congregational Church, Main St. Hampton, CT 06247. Committal Service will follow at Litchfield Cemetery, Bigelow Rd.
