Anne Strutt, 82, died Saturday, January 10, in her home in Mansfield with her family at her side. She will be dearly missed by her husband Peter, daughters Hannah and Rachel, brother Malcolm MacGregor of Glasgow, Scotland, and her two Maine Coon cats. Anne loved gardening, walking, scrabble, PBS, a good laugh, and more than anything, spending time with her family and friends. Born in 1926 in London, England, daughter of Edward MacGregor and Ruth Beynon, Anne grew up during WWII. To escape the London Blitz, she was evacuated from London to Guildford, where she lived with several different families. After graduating from the London School of Economics, she trained as a medical social worker, working at two London hospitals: St Thomas' and King's College. In 1959, Anne moved to Philadelphia, where she met her husband, Peter, also English. After several years in Melbourne, Australia, and a few more in Madison, Wisconsin, the two eventually came to Connecticut. Anne worked as a psychiatric social worker at Student Mental Health at the University of Connecticut for over 20 years. Although she never liked to toot her own horn, we will toot it for her. Throughout her life, she was passionate about helping others: Anne always was willing to lend an ear; she also gave considerable time and money to numerous charities. Her warm, generous spirit lives on. There will be a viewing at St. Mark's Episcopal Chapel, 42 North Eagleville Rd., Storrs, on Friday, January 16th, 5-7pm. A memorial service will take place at St. Mark's on Saturday, January 17th, at 2pm. Following the service, there will be a reception downstairs celebrating her life; please join us. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030 or The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606. For online memorial guestbook, please visit
