Anne (Davies) Smith, 89, of Ashford, CT., loving wife of Maurice T. Smith, passed away at the Mansfield Center for Nursing on April 15, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Oct. 6, 1914 in Ridgefield, CT. the daughter of William and Jennie Davies. A graduate of the Danbury School of Nursing, she was a nursing supervisor at Knight Hospital at the Mansfield Training School for over 25 years. She especially taught her family and others, respect for the mentally challenged and disabled. Anne was a member of Radiant Chapter #11 OES and the Order of Amaranth Rainbow Court #20 in Windham and was also active in the same organizations in N. Ft. Myers, FL. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, strength in maintaining family bonds, and steadfastness in times of hardship. She was an avid gardener with knowledge of many local flowers and shrubs. Anne's joy for many years had been her love of cats, especially CoCo and Pumpkin. She and her husband Maurice were active campers with the Masonic NCT for over 20 years, touring most of the United States. She was a staunch UConn women?s basketball supporter. In addition to her husband, her survivors include a son William Tilden and his wife Elizabeth of Tolland, 3 daughters; Patricia Piatek and her husband Joseph of Willington, Cheryl Hebblewaite and her husband Russell of Mansfield, and Janet Conley and her husband Thomas Sr. of Lebanon. Survivors also include her devoted stepson James C. Smith of Ashford and stepdaughter Debbie Cutler and her husband Raymond of Pomfret. She also leaves her loving grandchildren; Tracy, Julie, Tom Jr., Jennifer, Karen, Shannon, Jamie, Sean, Shelly, and Sandy and 12 great grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her parents, brother, sister, and first husband Fred Tilden. May our mother find comfort, love, peace, joy and the beauty of nature as she is taken into the hands of family that has preceded her. She was the wind beneath our wings. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00am with burial following in the Woodward Cemetery, Ashford.
