On Tuesday, October 9, 2002 we lost a matriarch of our family, Anna E. Handfield. Anna was the wife of the late Hector Handfield and the daughter of the late Edward Fay andEllen (Brand) Fay. Anna lived her life in Willimantic and owned a home on Coventry Lake for many years. She was employed by Electro-Motive and EbSmith's Gift Shop, which her sister, Arlene owned for many years. Anna leaves her brother Frank Fay and his wife Mary of Mansfield Center. She was predeceased by her two sisters, May Cady and Arlene Archambault. She also leaves her two brothers-in-law, Clinton Cady of Lebanon and Gerard Archambault of Norwich. Even though she didn't have children of her own, she was a surrogate mother to several of her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many great grandnieces and great grandnephews. She also leaves many wonderful and caring friends at St. Joseph's Living Center.Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
