Ann Z. Hale

July 7, 1923 — April 10, 2012

Ann Z. Hale Ann (Zeitung) Hale of Lakeland, Florida, died on April 10th 2012 at the age of 88 from the complications of respiratory illness. She was born and raised in Meriden, CT, and lived for thirty one years in Storrs, CT, prior to moving with her husband Nathan to Lakeland, Florida in 1988. She is survived by her husband of 65 years. No eulogy could do her justice, nor is one needed for those who were privileged to know her, because to know her was to love her. Her kindness and unselfishness, plus her cheerfulness in her mounting physical handicap during these last four years, were an inspiration to us all. She received the Connecticut American Cancer Society Courage Award in 1985. Ann was a 1946 graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She was an active life member of the Windham Community Hospital Auxiliary, was a volunteer in the Hospital Reach for Recovery Program, the Cub Scouts, 4H, and coached a Little League team in Mansfield. She was a sports fan and an avid golfer. Ann was a member of the Storrs Congregational Church and an associate member of the United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Mary Hale of Charlotte, NC,; and three sons, Nathan S. Hale, Jr. and his wife Ann of Spring Lake, NJ; Jonathan B. Hale and his wife Kathy of South Windsor, CT.; Dr. Daniel S. Hale and his wife Linda of College Station, TX; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18th at 10AM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT. All are welcome to come celebrate her life. Following the service, a private family burial will be at the Storrs Cemetery in Storrs, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name can be made to the Windham Hospital Auxiliary, 112 Mansfield Ave., Willimantic, CT, 06226; or to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 115 South Missouri Ave., Suite 500, Lakeland, FL, 33815.
