Anita Morrell, age 74 passed away in Willimantic Ct. on Saturday May 3, 2009 at the Windham Hospital of respiratory arrest caused by COPD Born in Hartford Ct. on February 28, 1935, she was the daughter of Esther and Daniel Balkus. Anita had 7 brothers and sisters. She was married on January 22, 1955 to Donald Morrell. She worked the majority of her life at the Salmon Brook Convalescent Home in Glastonbury Connecticut as an assisted living care giver. Anita resided in East Hartford for the majority of her life and was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. She also belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order and was ordained by the third order. She was the loving mother of 5 children. Anita is survived by daughters Kimberly and Kathleen and sons John and James. She now joins her daughter Maribeth who passed of heart failure. She has 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, Ct. at 10:00 am on Wednesday May 6th. There are no calling hours. Any correspondence regarding the service can be accepted by her daughter Kimberly at 401-439-4021. A memorial fund has been established and donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Special thanks to her children who remained by her side and comforted her in the final days and also to the staff at Windham hospital who did a fantastic job in making these final days as comfortable and painless as they possibly could.
