Anita Leibowitz Obituary
Zoe died at home on July 29, 2024. She was born in Washington, D. C. on December 21, 1934, to Mark Rawson Bullock and Camille Prato Bullock.  There she attended Western H. S. and graduated from DC Teacher’s College (1956). She immediately started her computer science career as a programmer at the U.S. Army Map Service.  Then she worked for the GWU Biometric Lab, followed by a move in 1962 to IBM in Cambridge, Mass. and met her husband of 61 years, Gerald Leibowitz, who was studying at MIT. In 1966 she received an MS in Mathematics from Northwestern U, and in 1981 she earned an MS in Computer Science from UConn and became a professor (and later Computer Science Department Head) at CCSU. She retired from there in 1996.

For many years, Zoe was active in the League of Women Voters, the Women’s Club of Storrs, the UCONN League and several of its interest groups, the Windham Whirlers Square Dance Club, the retirees’ council of the Connecticut State Employees Union, etc. She also designed and created many beautiful pieces of beaded jewelry.

Dance was very important to Zoe.  She took classes in everything from ballet and classical Indian dance to Zumba. She and Jerry were square and round (choreographed ballroom) dancers for many years.

Zoe is survived by her husband Gerald, her children -- Sarah Joy Leibowitz and husband Paul Hinson, Thomas Jacob Leibowitz and wife Jodie Smith, Neal Marev Leibowitz and wife Brenda, and Alice Roberta Leibowitz; and her grandchildren -- Seth Russell Hinson, Hannah Grace Leibowitz and Noah Mason Leibowitz.
