Obituary

Anastasia Dorosz Tambornini, 78, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on October 9, 2026.

Ann was born in Karlsruhe, Germany on September 18, 1948, to Rosalie and Jurij Dorosz. In 1950, she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents aboard the General S.D. Sturgis, settling in Willimantic, Connecticut, where they became active members of the local Ukrainian community. Ann attended Natchaug Elementary School and was a 1966 graduate of Windham High School.

In 1970, Ann married Ezio Tambornini, and they raised their children, Gianpaolo and Marisa, in North Windham. For many years, she was also a dedicated caregiver to her mother and her in-laws. Ann returned to the workforce in 1984 at UConn, first as a typist in Health Services and later as a secretary in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She made lifelong friends at UConn, and held a special place in her heart for the international graduate students, who often shared traditional foods and small gifts from their home countries with her.

Ann retired in 2009 upon becoming a grandmother. She lived with Marisa for the first three months after her granddaughter Mia’s birth providing treasured around-the-clock help, and even masterfully navigating the Los Angeles freeways. Ann and Ezio spent summers renovating their home in San Sebastiano Curone, Italy, where she connected with family and made many friends. Back home, Ann loved making big batches of soup for Friday night bingo at the Ukrainian National Home, where she could be found laughing and volunteering in the kitchen.

Ann will forever be remembered as a devoted mother and baba, a loyal friend, and a strong advocate for her family. She loved Motown, traveling, gardening, reading and watching mysteries, and was always up for trying new things. She is survived by her husband, Ezio Tambornini; her children, Gianpaolo Tambornini of Windham Center and Marisa Tambornini of Burbank, California; her “favorite son-in-law," Mark Sondag; and her cherished granddaughter, Mia Rose Sondag. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Ann’s helper, Inga Czech, and the nurses and staff at Solheim Senior Community for their exceptional care over the past two years. A memorial service at St. Joseph’s Cemetery will be held in the spring, with details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann's memory to Leeza’s Care Connection.
