Alvin N. Kilburn

January 23, 1931 — February 5, 2009

Alvin N. Kilburn, 78, of Eastford, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born January 23, 1931, in Willimantic, youngest of eight children, to the late Wilbur and Corinne Kilburn. Al served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following his discharge he worked for his father in the carpentry shop of the American Thread Company before going on to work for several contractors in the Manchester and Hartford areas. He later became a certified building official serving first in the Town of Putnam, then in Killingly and Eastford. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Camp Committee and the Building Committee. He will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Nancy of Eastford; son David of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Phil DeSiato of Coventry, son Mark of Eastford, and daughter Beth of Eastford. He was especially fond of his four grandchildren: Jay, Diana, Emilee and Alaina, all of Eastford. He also leaves two sisters, Lois Jenkins of Arizona and Marge Eaton of Pomfret, and many nieces and nephews. Potter Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the discretion of the family. A service of remembrance will be held at the First Congregational Church, 199 Valley St., Willimantic March 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 199 Valley St. Willimantic, CT 06226.
