Alvin C. Greene, 74, of Norwich, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 in Waterford. He was born January 6, 1931 in Willimantic, son of the late A. Clifford and Dorothy (Wilson) Greene and had lived in Willimantic most of his life. He served as a sergeant in the federalized CT National Guard 248th Engineering Company during the Korean War. He was a past Commander of Gold Star Post #1724 V.F.W. in Willimantic, Vice Commander of the American Legion, Baltic Chapter and served as chairman and guest speaker of the Loyalty Day Parade. Mr. Greene was also editor of the Veterans Newspaper and a member of many affiliated veteran s groups. He attended draftsman s school and was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and also at UConn as a Stationary Engineer. In later years, he was employed at W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. He is survived by his former wife and the mother of their children, Constance (Upton) Greene of Mansfield, 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki-Lynn and Philip Piasecki of Willimantic, Jodi-Rae and Michael Butts of Georgia, Kelli-Jo and Steven Baker, also of Georgia, 3 grandchildren, Tyler Cameron Piasecki, Samantha Rae Tanner and Dallas Rhea Baker, a brother, William Greene of Coventry and several nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Greene. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the CT Veteran s Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown.
