Alton E. Lathrop, "Sonny" too many of his friends, of Willimantic, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones Tuesday May 8, 2012. Alton was born March 16, 1929 to Alton S. and Ruth R. Lathrop of Andover Ct. One of the kindest and most humble men you could know, his skill as an artist, his sense of humor, intellect, wit and wisdom made those who knew him love him. Alton served in the Korean War with the Army's 45th Infantry Division and received a Purple Heart. Sonny worked 27 years for the DOT State of Ct retiring to life as an artist. Alton is predeceased by his daughter, Karen Ann Cook, and sister Frances Adler. He is survived by his sisters Irene Devanney and Mary Giovino of Manchester, Ct, brother George Owen Lathrop of New Hampshire, four grandchildren, Chelsea, Sarah, Megan and William(Billy) Cook and a great grandson Ocean Mullins of Arkansas, and several loving nieces , nephews and dear friends. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Oncology Dept. and Windham Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care Alton received. His family will receive relatives and friends Monday, May 14, 2012 at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic, from 1:00pm-3:00pm with a service a 3:00pm. Burial will be private.
