During his service, Airmen Schmied was deployed twice: in 2005 he was deployed to New Orleans to support the Hurricane Katrina relief effort; in 2007 Airman Schmied was deployed to Qatar to assist Operation Enduring Freedom. He was nominated by the 71st Expeditionary Air Control Squadron for their "hard-charger" award while deployed and for that unit's Airman of the Month in May 2007. Senior Airman Allen R. Schmied was named the 2007 outstanding Airman of the Year for the 103rd Fighter Wing.
