Allan Maines Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Allan Reynolds Maines, of Mansfield, beloved husband of Patricia Hawkins Maines, and the love of her life, who went home to God on July 2, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Allan was born in Presque Isle, Maine on February 28, 1941, to Edmund A. Maines and Barbara Beebe Goodale. Allan grew up and spent his entire life in Mansfield. He graduated from E.O.S High School and attended the University of Connecticut. He worked as service manager at the family owned Goodale’s Garage in Storrs for many years and then at Mountain Dairy in Mansfield for the next forty.
Allan and Patricia were married on June 20, 1964, at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel in Storrs and celebrated sixty years of marriage this year. In addition to his wife, Allan is survived by his four children: Kristen Hoyle (David), Michael Allan Maines (Anne), Bethany Maines, Andrew Maines (Tanya), his twelve grandchildren: Sarah, Emma, Anna and Ethan Hoyle, William and Michael Maines, Kiana and Toby Klafter, and Anjelique, Damien, Arianna and Andrew Maines and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell, stepbrother, Willis III and daughter-in-law, Heather MacDougall Maines.
When not working, Allan found joy spending time on his Boston Whaler at the Connecticut shore, maintaining and driving his Model T, and mowing the lawn. In his spare time, he could be found puttering around the house or tinkering in the garage, anywhere he could be with or near Pat and the rest of his family. Allan was an ace mechanic who could fix almost anything!
In his nineteen-year battle with Parkinson’s, Allan never lost his sense of humor and his determination to keep going. With the love and support of his family, he was able to continue living at home through his last years. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Community Companions and Homemaking and their caregivers, and especially to Ursula, who for the past three years was a cherished caregiver, comfort, and friend to both Allan and Patricia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, 46 North Eagleville Rd., Storrs, with a reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Save the Sound (Savethesound.org).
