Alice Riquier Obituary
Alice Riquier, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 14, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on March 9, 1936, daughter to the late Wilfred and Aldea (Garceau) Riquier. Alice was predeceased by her former husband Edwin Berube, sister Irene Williams, three brothers, George, Raymond, and Henry Riquier, and her son in law, John Burski.

A lifelong resident of Willimantic, she graduated from Windham High School and began working at SEMCO. She even had a quick stint as a waitress in local restaurants. Alice had a passionate sense of community which she shared with her five daughters and extended family. She volunteered as a member of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus where she attended ballroom dances and participated in fundraisers. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, crafts, bingo, playing cards with friends, casino excursions, going to the races, and large family gatherings.  She took pride in “dressing to the nines” with matching earrings, shoes, and makeup, no matter where her day brought her.

Known for her big heart, quick wit, and adventurous spirit, she maintained a close bond with each of her daughters. They spoke daily and ended every conversation with “See ya, love ya “.

As the matriarch of her family, Alice’s home was a sanctuary of unconditional love, absolute acceptance, unwavering support, and complete inclusivity, where her friends and extended family were truly always welcomed. Alice’s greatest accomplishment in her life was her family. She mirrored her strong Catholic beliefs and taught them strength, kindness, love, and unconditional support, and understanding. Within this beloved extended family, she leaves behind her five adoring daughters; Gail Burski, Dale (Jon) Postler, Robin (Todd) Dean, Sherry (John) Rodriguez, and Sandra Berube (Kris Hansen), 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother Richard (Janet) Riquier, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Alice believed that you should always cherish love, for it brings happiness. Shun anger, for it brings sorrow. Embrace the goodness that surrounds you, for holding onto the negative serves no purpose but to weigh down the spirit. While she will be deeply missed her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In honoring Alice’s memory let us remember the love and kindness she shared with everyone she met.  May her spirit of kinship and compassion continue to inspire us all. Please join us in celebrating Alice’s life on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at a Funeral Mass that will be held at 10 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 46 Valley Street, Willimantic followed by a burial at Saint Joseph Cemetery on Club Road in Windham.
