Alice B. Niles

Alice B. Niles, 79, of Laurel La., Windham, wife of Hazen Niles, died Sunday morning Aug. 10, 2003 at the Windham Hospital. She was born April 1, 1924 in Dallas, TX. the daughter of Oakey and Bertha (Schultz) Durland. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso and served as an elementary school teacher there, where she was nominated for teacher of the year. She was a member of the First Christian Church in El Paso, the Order of Eastern Star and was active in the Rebecca Lodge. As residents of Stafford Springs, she and Hazen taught cake decorating at their business known as The Cake Box. Alice enjoyed playing the piano, bingo and reading. During World War 2 she resided in Austria and Japan with her first husband Capt. John Schultz. He died in 1963. She and Hazen Niles were married on Nov. 27, 1969 in El Paso. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son John F. Schultz Jr. and his wife Jody of Seattle, WA., a daughter Jackie Mae Battaglia of Ruther Glen, VA. and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held with burial in the New Hebron Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements through the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic.
