Alice Fitts

Alice M. Fitts, 96, of Hampton, passed away on Friday Dec. 19, 2008 at Villa Maria Nursing Rehabilitation Community in Plainfield, with her two loving daughters by her side. She was born on April 4, 1912 in East Marion, L.I.,NY the youngest daughter of William M. Chapel and Dora Rudd Chapel. She was predeceased by two brothers, William O. Chapel and Clifford E. Chapel and three sisters Dora Breeden, Elsie Baker and Ruth Gillbransen. She spent the first thirteen years of her life on Plum Island in Long Island Sound, where her father was a lighthouse keeper. She graduated from the Hampton Public School in 1928 and lived in Hampton most of her life. On June 30, 1935, she married Robert N. Fitts who predeceased her on Feb. 5, 1977. She leaves her two daughters, Violet M. Marquis and her husband Robert D. of Hampton and Barbara L. Cairns and her husband Ian R. of Florida. She is also survived by two beloved granddaughters, Trudy A. Brockett and her husband Ben and Joan E. Marquis-Figueroa and her husband Jerry all of Hampton, and three loving great grandchildren, Nicholas Brockett, Michael Brockett and Marina Figueroa. She will be greatly missed and always live in our hearts. Calling hours will not be held. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:30pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Interment will take place in the spring in Abington Cemetery.
