Alice Abel

Alice J. "Nana" Abel, 87, of Lebanon, widow of Eugene J. Abel, died peacefully on Tuesday July 2, 2002 at the Windham Hospital, with her children and grandchildren at her side. Alice was born in Willimantic on June 5, 1915, the eldest of eight children of the late Wilbur and Corrine Kilburn, of Hayden St. She attended St. Mary's School and Windham High School. She married Eugene and moved to Lebanon in 1935 where she lived and raised her family. She received her Bachelors Degree and then her Masters Degree in education from the Willimantic State Teacher's College in 1965 and then taught fourth grade for many years at the Lebanon Elementary School. Alice was a talented artist and homemaker for many years, who found solace under her roof. She was always eager to learn something new. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. She is survived by 3 children; Calista Corrine Gingras of Chaplin, Eugene Wilbur Abel of Lebanon and Alice Cynthia Beers of TN., 2 sisters; Marge Eaton of Pomfret and Lois Jenkins of Tucson, AZ., a brother Alvin Kilburn of Eastford, 6 grandchildren; Valerie Beers, Debbie Franklin, Cheryl Abel-O'Connor, Alice Gingras Kuzel, Jeffrey Beers and Eugene Abel, 8 great grandchildren, Nathan and Alicia Franklin, John and Paul Luchon-O'Connor, Stephanie, Meredith and Camille Kuzel and Brandon Beers. Her family will receive friends at the Potter F.H. 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00am prior to her 11:00am funeral home service. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations in her memory to the Immaculata Retreat House, P.O. Box 55, Willimantic,Ct. 06226.
