Alfred P. Beckwith, 87, of South Windham, CT went to his rest on February 5, 2023. He was born in Windham, CT to Alfred C. Beckwith and Gretchen L. Vegiard. Al was predeceased by his wife, Mary Dale Bottoms Beckwith, and his two sisters, Gretchen (Betty) Therrien Tellier and Louise Pratt.
Al is survived by children Kimberly Beckwith, of South Windham, CT; Lynda Beckwith (husband Roger Blattenberger) of Mercersburg, PA; Andrew Beckwith of Hertford, NC; Michael Depathy of Tampa, Florida and Lisa Golden of Central Village, CT.
He studied at Windham Tech before serving in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1963. He worked at Brand Rex and The Institute of Materials Sciences at UConn prior to setting up his own small engine repair shop in Windham and was a member of the Windham Fish and Game Club.
Al was especially good with his hands, fixing almost anything from lawn equipment to household repairs, to his children's automobiles. He represented a vanishing breed of self-sufficient, handy Yankees and kept a vegetable garden and enjoyed cooking and reading. He was a good father who passed along his knowledge and sense of humor to his children. His friends and customers will remember him for his mechanical abilities and cleverness.
Keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. He will be remembered at the Windham Cemetery in Windham Center. Close family and friends may contact his daughter, Kimberly at kbeck@xs4all.nl for details on a memorial gathering to be held in the near future.
