Adolph 'Lefty' Koniar passed away peacefully at his home in Storrs/Mansfield, Monday, December 31, 2012 after a long illness. He was born on June 25, 1924 in West Willington, CT to John and Mary (Trnavsky) Koniar. He served in the U.S.Navy on the USS Bogue in the Pacific during WWII. He was employed as a Meat Manager for the First National grocery chain prior to his retirement. 'Lefty' enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Eastern Connecticut Sportsman's Club in Ashford and member of the Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Helen, son Robert, brothers John Koniar, and William Koniar, sisters Julia (Parizek) Carter, Evelyn Williams, and Eleanor Palmer. He is survived by his daughter Dorine Randall and her husband Ron, son John Koniar, granddaughter Christine McMahon and her husband Chris; great grandchildren Attianna Prenata and Matthew McMahon; sisters Roseanne and husband Jerry Parizek, Dorothy and husband Ron Vogel, MaryJane and husband Roland Labbe, Alice Sousa; brothers, Edward Koniar , Milan Koniar and wife Helen, cousins Ruth and Andrew Trnavsky and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the caregivers from the Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehab for their support as well as the Mansfield VNA for their excellent care. Funeral services will be private with no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Storrs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society
