Adele (Kennon) English, 65, of Coventry, CT passed away at home on Sunday, June 26, 2016 after a brief illness, with her husband Mark at her side. Adele was born September 9, 1950 in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Robert Steiss Kennon DMD and Mary (Lung) Kennon. Adele moved with her parents to the Coventry home where she has lived, except for a few brief intervals, since 1952. She attended the Coventry Day School on South Street and the George Hersey Robertson School. After graduating from Coventry High School she matriculated at the University of Connecticut and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in food and nutrition in 1973. After a dietetics internship at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford she joined the Dietetics Department at Hartford Hospital in 1974 as a staff dietician. Adele was appointed Chief Clinical Dietician in 1985 after having expanded the registered dietician role in several new areas, including pediatric neonatology, a multi-specialty nutritional support team, dialysis and the medical intensive care unit. She was a consultant for area convalescent homes and served as a speaker for numerous inservice education presentations at local homes, professional meetings, and hospital volunteer orientations. A registered dietician, she was a member of the Connecticut and American Dietetic Associations, the Greater Hartford Consortium of Chief Dieticians, and served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Dietetics, School of Allied Health at the University of Connecticut. Adele completed her Master of Science degree at UConn while working full time and teaching an undergraduate course at the University. She was promoted to Director of Nutrition Services at Hartford Hospital and retired in November 2007 after 33 years of service. She was married to Robert A. Bissonnette for over 34 years, until his passing in 2005 following a veteran-related illness. A diabetic since age 11, Adele received a donated kidney from her sister-in-law?s daughter, Kim Combies, in early 2006. Adele married Mark English on January 10, 2010, the fourth anniversary of that transplant. Her interests were diverse and wide-ranging, including flower and vegetable gardening, flower horticulture, the culinary arts, white water rafting, and especially dogs. Along with her husband Adele is survived by her brother, Dale Kennon and his wife Karen of Salem, CT, and two nephews, Rob and David. She will be remembered fondly by them as well as her many, many friends and colleagues. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT, with interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be planned for a future date.
