William “Bill” G. Hoffman, 72, of Coventry, died Saturday August 24, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. He was the son of the late Ralph and Etty (Baird) Hoffman. Bill was born in Everett, MA, and moved to Coventry at a young age and remained a lifelong resident, living most of his life in his childhood home. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from ESCU. He began teaching 7th grade science at the Capt. Nathan Hale Middle School. During his 34-year teaching career he touched the lives of countless students. Upon his retirement Bill turned his focus to knife making. With the help of his loving wife, Aline, he also used his talents to operate a professional sharpening business, Never a Dull Moment, sharpening knives and tools at the Coventry Farmers’ Market. Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Aline (Portnow) Hoffman; a son David and daughter-in-law Erin Sullivan, his grandchildren Ella, Milo, and Clarissa; his daughter Rachel and son-in-law Andrew, and his first wife Susan Gold Hoffman Simons; a brother Peter and sister-in-law Debbie Zack Hoffman; sister Phyllis Offenkrantz and brother-in-law David; nephew and nieces Scott and Chelsey Hoffman and Jennifer and Rebecca Offenkrantz, and also by his dear friends Gale and Judy Morganroth. Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St, Willimantic with A Celebration of his Life beginning at 1:00 pm. The family will sit Shiva at Bill & Aline’s home Sunday September 1st and Monday, September 2nd from 1:00 - 7:00 pm.
