Ruth H. (Melamed) Heller

Ruth (Ruby) Melamed Heller passed away at age 85 at Douglas Manor in Windham, CT. Ruth was born in  Brooklyn, NY and  graduated Lincoln High School in Brooklyn.  After moving to Connecticut she graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a BA and MA as an adult student.   She then treasured her teaching positions in English at Eastern, as well as local community colleges and Computer Processing Institute. She was a dedicated member of Temple Bnai Israel in Willimantic.

 While still very young, Ruth traveled to Thailand with her first husband, Arthur Abramson. There she became one of the very first Westerners to master Thai classical dance. She even performed for the King of Thailand. During her travels in East Asia she developed a taste for East Asian art, and acquired many fine artifacts for the family collection. Upon returning to the United States she continued to perform in New York City even after her children were born. Ruth especially adored her beloved and devoted teenage grandson Isaac B. Abrams. She kept her family close and saw to it that her late husband Paul  and her late ex-husband Arthur where together in Isaac’s family for her delicious meals, travels, and dinners out.She will be missed by her sons Joseph Abramson  and his wife Alice of Arlington, VA and her son David Abrams of Storrs, CT.  She is also survived by her step-daughters Anna Heller and her husband George L. Cushing Jr., Molly Heller and her husband Nathaniel Jellinek, and  grandchildren.Isabel Cushing, Harry Jellinek, and Stella Jellinek. Donations in honor of Ruth may be made to:
