Robert A. Rondeau Sr., 74 of Hampton died unexpectedly after a short illness January 20, 2018. Bob was born in Willimantic CT, son of Joseph George Rondeau, and Gertrude Clarice (Lemire) Rondeau. He grew up in Willimantic, graduated from Windham Technical School, and became a tool and die maker. Bob spent his entire career working in this industry and was a true master of his craft. After marrying the love of his life, Georgia Helen Becker in 1965, they settled in Hampton and raised a daughter and three sons. Bob was a generous man and proved it with community service. He was a member of the Hampton Fire Co from 1979 until present. He served as Lieutenant and Vice President during that time. Bob became a Fire Fighter 2 in 1984 which shows his dedication to the department. He would say he loved the excitement of it, and he was a very active member. He was also a member of the Hampton/Chaplin Ambulance Corps and was trained to be an MRT. He rolled on countless calls, day or night, no matter the weather, to assist people in need. It didn’t matter what you needed or when, if you asked for help, he would give it. Never one to sit still, he kept busy in his spare time. Bob loved to work around the house improving his property, painting, or strumming his guitar. He enjoyed taking walks and spending time outside, since his career had him working inside for most of his life. Bob was a true family man. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He never missed a school concert, 4H fair, horse show, graduation, or any event that involved his family. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, and many others.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Georgia Rondeau, and leaves behind a daughter, Cynthia Rondeau; three sons and their families, Robert and Heidi Rondeau of Hampton, CT, M. William and Stephanie Rondeau of Boston, MA, and Daniel and Ashley Rondeau of Wellesley, MA; four grandchildren, Genevieve, Evelyn, and Ryan Rondeau of Hampton, and Isabelle Rondeau of Boston; brother Paul Rondeau and his wife Charla of Torrington.
There will be a Memorial Service for Bob on Saturday, February 3, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 41 Cedar Swamp Rd, Hampton Ct. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial donations to the Hampton Fire Department, 190 West Old Rt. 6, Hampton, CT.
