Bob was always there when needed to provide help to students, faculty and administrators at UConn. His commitment to student learning was greatly appreciated. He always had a kind word and insightful ways of ensuring student success. I greatly enjoyed having him as a colleague. Best wishes to the family.

Dear Diane, Robert, Suzanne, and family,
Thirty-seven years of tradition tie me and later my family to Bob Jeffers and the Jeffers family. Bob was the one who, together with Roman Solecki and Richard Garrett, brought me to UConn from Poland. He was my first Department Head at UConn and a very helpful colleague assisting me during my early years at this university when I was establishing my teaching and research here. Bob was also the one who introduced me to the activities of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
When I was here in Storrs for two long years, being alone, without my family, Bob, Diane and their children showed me the most tender care. From that time up until several days ago, it had been a custom for me to see Bob and Diane quite often. Christmas and Easter visits with the Jeffers were almost a tradition in my family.
I am grateful to Bob for the many ways of cooperation and friendship in which he supported me professionally and socially. Just ten days before Bob left us, we were still discussing a paper that we planned to write together.

Farewell, Bob. I will miss you very much. You marked an important chapter in my career here at this university. You were one of the most significant figures who had an impact on my academic life at UConn. Relations with you, Diane and your family will be long remembered by me, my wife Danuta and my family. We will miss you and will cherish our memories of you forever.

My wife and I were students of Bob Jeffers, but more importantly he convinced both of us to be ASME student volunteers (as he had a way of doing) at a Vibrations Conference in Hartford, CT, on September 21st, 1981. John had a car and Bob selected a girl and two boys that John didn't know, at the time, to ride with him to Hartford. The girl was named Terry Balinskas, and sat next to John on the car ride to Hartford. John and Terry married in 1983 and are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary this November. So not only was Bob a great teacher, he was a pretty good matchmaker as well. Whenever John saw Bob at many events since he graduated, we always talked about this turn of events.
Our deepest condolences. Bob was a teacher, a tutor, someone you could talk to about any topic, and most importantly a good matchmaker. We're very grateful that he was part of our lives while we were at UCONN.

Dear Diane and Jeffers Family,

From afar (on sabbatic leave in Prague, Czech Republic) I am sending our deepest condolences with Oya for the untimely passing of our Dear Bob. I always remembered his recruiting effort for me in 1981 with immense joy. Throughout the years until his retirement his endless energy for "educating the young generation" was exemplary to all of us on the faculty. His unwavering devotion to education will bring a long list of his students in deep sorrow at this time, I am sure.

Once again we pray for peace in his eternal life, and strength to the family in these difficult days.

I will miss Bob. He was head for all of my tenure quest and his support and positive tone were critical to my success. However what I admired most about Bob was his lack of pretense and his absolute dedication to the students. If I had a dollar for every time I passed his office at the end of the hall from my and saw him spending is time so generously talking to students I would be a rich man now. To be Bob was the living definition of salt of the earth.

Finally Diane as you will be living alone, you may need help sometimes for which there is not professional option. I know it was true for my mother. something like carrying 3 heavy boxes down the stairs. Please let me know and I will do what I can.
