Marie Murray Schone, 92, of Mansfield Center, CT passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on December 31, 2019 at Briarcliffe Gardens in Johnston, RI. She was born in Stamford, CT on July 22, 1927 to the late John E. and Beatrice M. Murray. Marie lived and was educated in Stamford, CT where she met and married Henry Schone, her high school sweetheart, on September 11, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church, in Stamford, CT. Since moving to Mansfield Center Marie was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church of Willimantic, CT. Marie was a compassionate soul, known in her family and in the church to give all that she had to others. This spirit will live on in all those she has touched with her love and kindness.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her youngest son, John Schone and daughter in-law Janet Almon Schone; her sister, Sister Maryanne Fitzmaurice and her five brothers William, Daniel, Kingsley, Richard and Robert Fitzmaurice. Marie held a pivotal role in the family, offering consistent affection, a listening ear, and a place to call home for all. She is survived by her son, Robert H. Schone of Newport, RI; her daughter, Mary Linda Stone and her husband, Thomas of Ashford, CT; and her daughter, Kathleen Hewitt and her partner, Norman Goldman, of Glastonbury, CT. Marie “Nanny” also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Misty Stone Sorensen, Krista Stone, Kathryn Hewitt Redican, Sarah Hewitt Powers, John Schone, Mary Schone and Anna Schone. She also leaves four great-grandchildren; Alexis Lathrop, Brady Sorensen, Logan Redican and Cecilia Redican.
The Schone family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all their dear friends for the love, kindness, cards and prayers over the past year and a half while Marie resided at Briarcliffe. A special thank you to all of the care givers at Briarcliffe that took care of and loved Marie each and every day. Her family will always be grateful.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday January 7, 2020 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rt. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday January 8, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
