Lloyd Ellery Dunstan

Lloyd Ellery Dunstan, 92, of Mansfield Center, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2018. Known as Ellery to his family and friends, the son of Lawrence and Gladys Dunstan was born September 20, 1925 and was raised in Mansfield Center, CT. He met and married the girl of his dreams, Betty Cole, on July 2, 1949, celebrating 69 years of marriage this summer.

He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. After retiring, he continued to work various jobs in Mansfield including at the Mansfield Center Post Office.  Ellery was a lifetime member of the Mansfield Fire Department. He enjoyed reading western stories and history books, participating in scouts with his oldest son Ryan, watching his youngest son Randy play baseball along with his sister Dot always there to cheer him on. He enjoyed trips to Vermont and Cape Cod, where they had a camper in Dennis, MA, spending time at the family lot on Quasset Lake in Woodstock, CT, puzzles, birdwatching, gardening, raising chickens and goats, watching his political shows, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Roger Staubach and sitting a spell talking about the old days. His greatest joy was helping his sons and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and experience life.

Ellery is survived by the love of his life Betty; sons Ryan (Luanne) and Randy of Mansfield; his grandchildren Scott (Amy) Dunstan and Shane (Rebecca) Dunstan; great- grandchildren, Madison, Ryan and Owen Dunstan, all of Storrs;  a sister, Carolyn Burridge of Indian Orchard, MA along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Ellery was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy (Dot), Olive, Shirley and brothers Bill, Joe, Chuck, Adelbert.

Ellery’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St.(Rte. 195), Willimantic, CT. Burial will follow at Mansfield Center Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Mansfield, CT.  Donations in his memory can be made to Troop 56, 9 Westwood Road, Storrs, CT.
