Jack will be missed by so many folks who had the opportunity to work with him and learn from him. His passion for researching and learning and passing this passion along to those around him made him the best mentor ever. I loved being around him and he would always challenge my thinking....put it in a matrix! He also had a way of making you feel like you were a part of his family and I will remember the lunches and the lively conversations! Louise you were also so kind to all of us and I want you to know my heart goes out to you and your whole family!! A legend is resting!

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was the single greatest influence on my career in higher education and was a wonderful mentor as I began my work. He was a brilliant scholar and a tireless researcher in special education. Even more important is that Jack was a true and loyal friend for many years. He is missed greatly and I feel very fortunate to have been touched by his intellect, his humor, and his kindness.

Louise, Patty, Kathleen, John-

Pat and I were so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing . He was a wonderful man- so smart, kind, and generous. If it were ‘t for him, I would not have my degree and enjoyed the terrific career I had. He was a brilliant scholar, a compassionate educator, and a true friend. His guidance enabled so many of us to make a contribution to a field for which we have such passion. Professionally, but most of all personally, he will be missed.

Jack provided me with the greatest gift possible, an opportunity to pursue graduate study (MA & PhD) at The University of Connecticut and it changed my life trajectory. His professional interests in curriculum and teaching caused special educators' to focus, as it should be, on student learning. As my advisor, Jack was kind, attentive and supportive. I will miss his positive influence in my life. My sincere condolences to his family.

It is with great sadness that I extend condolences to his family. He was a significant influence on my professional career. I often cited his work in my consulting to state and local school district. His ideas about learning and curriculum were highly innovative and accurate. I thank him for his mentoring in graduate school.

What a wonderful man Jack was -- and how fond my parents were of you both. I remember so many good times with you. All my love to the family -- and thank you for being so kind to me over so many years.

There are no words to express how much Mr. C will be missed. He was a second father to me as I spent more time at the Cawley house than my own. Please know that he will be in my heart forever.
