Janet (Elliott) Matassa

Janet Matassa, of Putnam CT, wife of the late Thomas Matassa, passed away August 26, 2017.  She was born November 1, 1931 in Willimantic, the daughter of the late George and Marie (Morin) Elliott.  Janet attended St. Mary and Windham High School and was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Willimantic.  She had been employed as a Lab Technician for Dr. Leo Santucci and Dr. Wayne Haeger Optometrists’ in Willimantic, for twenty years before retiring in 1995.  Janet spent most of her life in Willimantic before moving to Putnam in 2010. She enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.  Janet is survived by two sons, Michael Matassa of Groton and James Matassa of Chaplin; two sisters, Evelyn Menzone of Charlton, MA and Edith Baronousky of East Windsor; two grandsons, Angelo Matassa of Groton and Thomas Ives of Rhode Island; a son-in-law Richard A. Sanders of Canterbury; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special longtime friend Carol Montpelier of Moosup.  Janet was predeceased by a daughter Karen J. Sanders; three brothers, Robert, Carl and Raymond Elliott; three sisters, Doris Elliott, Ruth E. Roy and Marie (Shirley) Elliott.  There are no calling hours.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday September 5, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church, 80 Maple Ave. Willimantic, CT 06226.  For an online memorial guestbook please visit www.potterfuneralhoem.com.
