Jim Abert was a good friend and a wonderful theatre colleague. I could always count on him to not only get the job done for me, usually as both a technical director and a stage manager, but to go beyond what was required and raise the quality of everyone around him. I worked with Jim at Amarante's Dinner Theater, The Shubert Theatre in New Haven CT, and through the theatre program at Daniel Hand High School in Madison CT. I would say that Jim got the most enjoyment out of working with the kids at school. He loved the shows and watching the growth of all the students involved. He would always step in to teach the technical kids the best way and the appropriate professional way to perform their specific task or their job as a whole. No student went through that program without knowing that when the stage manager told them there was 15 minutes to places, their proper response was to be, "Thank you, 15." From the actors to the techies to the kids in the orchestra pit, all of the students involved left DHHS better for their interaction with Jim. My fondest memories of Jim are spending hours building sets for the myriad of different shows we produced there. We always had some favorite technical accomplishment in every show and we certainly did our fair share of laughing together. He took part in the student run "Night of Scenes" during the last year we both worked at DHHS and played the old woman (yes! woman, even with the mustache) during the Spanish Inquisition sketch from Monty Python and sang the Python song, "I'm a Lumberjack." What a great sport! I'm sure Jim is singing with that big bass voice up in heaven and maybe debating with God about the scenery as well. I love you, Jim! You will be missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Jim. You were such a bright spot at the puzzle table each day at the Mansfield Senior Center as well as a terrific addition to the chorus. You will be missed...

We loved Jim at the Mansfield Senior Center. He sang in our chorus performing at local nursing homes and rehab facilities. When he wasn't singing he volunteered at the Center, was a member of our Wii Bowling team and worked on puzzles. He even taught putting and was preparing to take up tap dancing again. We have so many stories to share with you. Let us know if you need any help. Our prayers are with you.
