I. Ridgway (Ridg) Davis, Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut, passed away at Windham Hospital on February 10, 2018, after a short illness. He was 94.
Ridg was born in Wildwood, New Jersey on May 18, 1923 to Claire Goslin and George Howell Davis. After graduating from Wildwood High School, he entered Yale College. He soon joined the U.S. Army and served in WWII, before returning to Yale and graduating with the class of 1949. He continued to the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Master’s degree in Political Science, and, more importantly, met Margaret Anne MacDermid, whom he would marry in 1951. After receiving his PhD from Ohio State University on the G.I. Bill, Ridg moved to Storrs to begin teaching at the University of Connecticut, where he continued for more than four decades until his retirement. A specialist in state and local government, and in Constitutional law, his greatest joy was teaching and interacting with students.
A long-time resident of Storrs, Ridg was predeceased by his wife in 2013. Ridg is survived by his sons, Douglas (Rachel) and Lynden; by his seven grandchildren, Evan (Rachael), Gordon (Melissa), Annie, Andrew, Luke, Adam and Amanda; his great-granddaughter, Sage and by his care-givers Amber, Jodi and Tina.
