Frances Nichols Obituary

Frances C. (Clark) Nichols, of Storrs, died September 4, 2019 at her home. She was born in Willimantic in 1934 and lived in Connecticut all of her life. Frances worked as a label clerk at Brand Rex for eight years before taking a job with the University of Connecticut as an administrative assistant where she worked for twenty five years. She was proud of the work she did and it was obvious that the quality and integrity of her work was important.

Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield since 1975. For many years, church played a major role in the lives of both Frances and her husband Ronald. Frances devoted her life to her family. She was thoughtful and considerate. She never missed a holiday or special date for her loved ones near or far. No matter what, Frances had a card and kind words for that.

Frances and her husband Ron were married in and remained the love of one another’s’ lives until Ron’s passing in 2015.

Besides her family, Frances always had a constant cat companion or two. Cats were one of her favorite things, and her nurturing and gentle ways made her the perfect cat mom. Frances loved listening to Elvis and playing the piano. She volunteered countless hours as a companion and friend to elderly residents in hers and surrounding communities, including many at the Pierce Home in Brooklyn. Frances had a warm and tender spirit. She will be dearly missed but her legacy will serve as a reminder to those who knew and loved her to be more kind and compassionate in their lives.

Frances is predeceased by Ronald Nichols, her loving husband of 59 years and her brother John Clark. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Marian Rychling, Jean Robitaille and Susan Durand; daughter Deb Weidner and son in law Joseph Weidner of Livingston, Montana; son Robert Nichols and his partner Cheryl Bagshaw of Mansfield Center; grandchildren Shauna Johnson and Cheyenne Nichols; great granddaughter Jude Johnson and many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. Frances family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, with her funeral service beginning at 11:00am.  Burial will follow at the Mansfield Center Cemetery.
